Ascension Island Land Crab (Johngartia lagostoma) – Preserved Crab Specimen
The Ascension Island Land Crab (Johngartia lagostoma) is a terrestrial crab native to Ascension Island and other islands in the tropical Atlantic Ocean. Formerly classified as Gecarcinus lagostoma, this species is recognized by its robust body, long walking legs, and variable coloration ranging from reddish-orange to purple and bluish hues. It spends most of its life on land, inhabiting rocky terrain, coastal forests, and grasslands, returning to the sea only for reproduction.
This professionally preserved specimen showcases the crab's sturdy carapace, powerful claws, and detailed anatomical features. Carefully preserved to maintain its natural appearance, it is an outstanding addition to marine biology collections, educational displays, museums, curiosity cabinets, and natural history collections.
Each specimen is individually prepared, making every crab a unique representation of one of the Atlantic's most remarkable terrestrial crustaceans.
